Families in Winter Valley will have more room to grow with the opening of a huge 17,400sqm public park in the heart of their community.

The new park will feature a large, purpose-designed, open space that combines green elements and functional amenity to prioritise wellbeing for local residents.

Goldfields National Director of Communities, Paul Cicchiello, said at the centre of every great community is an activity and fun-filled park.

“Residents who make Winterfield their home will be able to enjoy this community hub right outside their door every single day,” Mr Cicchiello said.

“Our new park has been designed with an active lifestyle in mind with facilities to accommodate neighbourhood cricket, footy, and soccer. The park will also feature 245 trees of various sizes and species adding a plethora of flora and fauna to the urban landscape.

“This new park is a terrific example of how Goldfields is working hard to provide outstanding liveability for residents within the communities we create.”

The full design and build cost for the new park is approximately $2m with an additional $160,000 allocated by Goldfields for maintenance.

City of Ballarat Mayor, Cr Des Hudson said the new park provides a place where residents can come together, enjoy the outdoors and create lasting memories. “Winter Valley is a thriving community where families can grow and where neighbours can connect,” he said.

“The City of Ballarat is busy planning for the city’s future housing demand to accommodate more than 55,000 new residents that will call Ballarat home in the coming years. It is fantastic to see this investment in our community and in the Ballarat West Growth Zone.”

Future resident Glenys Smith said being close to open space was really important for our family. “When I saw our block would be opposite Winterfield Park, I knew it would be a great opportunity for building a terrific family home,” said Glenys.

“I want my kids to have lots of personal space so they are not living and breathing on top of each other. We are getting that in spades at Winterfield.”
